John Baldessari « Paraboles fables et autres salades » – Bozar, Palais des Beaux-Arts, Bruxelles – 19 septembre 25 – 1er février 26.
John Baldessari (1931-2020) était un géant de l’art contemporain, dont il a bouleversé les codes. Connu pour ses peintures mêlant références à l’histoire de l’art et photogrammes de films hollywoodiens, il a brouillé les frontières visuelles et inventé un langage narratif complexe teinté d’humour.
L’exposition se concentre sur son travail, des années 1980 aux années 2000. Elle révèle que son œuvre reste une référence internationale, y compris pour les générations du numérique.
L’exposition que Bozar consacre à son œuvre est un passage obligé pour toutes celles et ceux qui veulent saisir les subtilités de l’avant-garde de la seconde moitié du xxe siècle.

Parables, Fables, and Other Tall Tales
John Baldessari (1931-2020) was a giant of contemporary art, whose codes he turned upside down. Known for his paintings combining art historical references with Hollywood film stills, he blurred visual boundaries and developed a complex narrative language tinged with humour.
The exhibition focuses on his work from the 1980s to the 2000s. It reveals the continued international relevance of his practice, including to generations born in the digital age.
The exhibition at Bozar, dedicated to his work, is a must-see for anyone who wants to grasp the subtleties of the avant-garde from the second half of the 20th century.
