L’artiste anglais expose depuis le 3 novembre dernier à Bâle cette sculpture représentant Donald Trump crucifié, en combinaison orange de Guantanamo, attaché à une croix par des sangles de contention. Une sculpture provocatrice de Mason Storm qui n’est pas sans évoquer le Pape écrabouillé de Maurizio Cattelan*…
« Saint or Sinner » -Saint ou pécheur en français- montre le roitelet américain qui s’est pris pour un empereur en tenue de prisonnier, les yeux clos, définitivement cloué sur le croix du Christ qu’il aime tant, soi-disant.
Après la claque qu’il vient de subir ce 5 novembre avec l’élection sans discussion du candidat Zohran Mamnadi à la mairie de New York, et malgré les injonctions de Trump à l’endroit de la communauté juive de New York et des électeurs argentés de la capitale culturelle des states de voter contre lui, afin de faire élire son concurrent, un démocrate aussi (Sic), le petit dictateur foutraque et à l’ouest se voit totalement désavoué par la population new-yorkaise, qui à 83 % a voté pour deux candidats démocrates, contre 7% pour le candidat républicain…
Une baffe sévère, doublée de l’élection simultanée de deux gouverneurs démocrates dans les états de Virginie et New Jersey.
La sculpture de Storm est exposée depuis samedi 3 novembre à Bâle. « C’est d’un réalisme effrayant, je peux l’affirmer sans hésiter, car lors de l’installation, nous étions vraiment au plus près du résultat. On voit chaque ride, la peau est tellement réaliste, c’est vraiment troublant », commente Konrad Breznik, le directeur de la galerie bâloise Gleis 4.
La galerie avait projeté initialement d’exposer l’œuvre de Storm (orage en français) dans son local, sis dans la gare de Bâle. Mais elle y a renoncé -on ne sait sous quelles pressions- et s’est rabattue sur une vitrine du Basler Kunstmeile dans le centre-ville de Bâle.
Le prétendu « Jésus moderne » que s’imagine incarner Donald Trump, se retrouve ainsi affublé d’une combinaison de prisonnier infamante, sanglé sur une croix tout aussi stigmatisante (celle des voleurs et criminels sous l’empire romain), et exhibé en plein centre ville de la capitale artistique de la Suisse…
L’auteur de l’oeuvre, Mason Storm, est un artiste reconnu pour ses sculptures hyperréalistes, fortement provocatrices et ses accointances avec le street-art et Bansky, dont il apprécie le travail. Il vit et travaille à Londres.

“Saint or Sinner” shows the American kingpin, who fancied himself an emperor, in prison garb, his eyes closed, definitively nailed to the cross of Christ, whom he supposedly loves so much.
After the resounding defeat he suffered on November 5th with the uncontested election of Zohran Mamnadi as mayor of New York City, and despite Trump’s injunctions to the Jewish community of New York and wealthy voters in the cultural capital of the United States to vote against him in order to elect his opponent, also a Democrat (sic), the erratic and out-of-touch little dictator has been completely repudiated by the people of New York, 83% of whom voted for two Democratic candidates, compared to only 7% for the Republican candidate…
A severe blow, compounded by the simultaneous election of two Democratic governors in the states of Virginia and New Jersey.
The sculpture « Storm » has been on display in Basel since Saturday, November 3. « It’s frighteningly realistic, I can say that without hesitation, because during the installation, we were really close to the final result. You can see every wrinkle, the skin is so realistic, it’s truly unsettling, » commented Konrad Breznik, director of the Basel gallery Gleis 4.
The gallery had initially planned to exhibit « Storm » in its premises, located in Basel’s main train station. But she abandoned the idea—under unknown pressure—and instead opted for a window display at the Basler Kunstmeile in downtown Basel. The self-proclaimed « modern Jesus, » whom Donald Trump imagines himself to be, thus finds himself clad in a shameful prison jumpsuit, strapped to an equally stigmatizing cross (the cross of thieves and criminals under the Roman Empire), and exhibited in the very heart of Switzerland’s artistic capital…
The artist behind the work, Mason Storm, is known for his hyperrealistic, highly provocative sculptures and his connections to street art and Banksy, whose work he admires. He lives and works in London.
