La Fondazione Donnaregina per le arti contemporanee – museo Madre, Naples, présente la première rétrospective institutionnelle de l’artiste américain Uri Aran (Jérusalem, 1977). Conçue spécialement pour les espaces du troisième étage du Palazzo Donnaregina, l’exposition se présente comme une rétrospective de mi-carrière : un parcours élaboré par l’artiste en dialogue direct avec l’architecture du musée, réunissant nombre de ses œuvres les plus importantes et des pièces inédites créées spécialement pour l’occasion. Cette exposition s’inscrit pleinement dans le développement de l’artiste, dont la recherche a été présentée dans certaines des institutions les plus prestigieuses de la scène internationale, notamment le programme Platforms : Commissions and Collection du Walker Art Center à Minneapolis (2019) ; la Whitney Biennial (2014), sous le commissariat de Stuart Comer, Anthony Elms et Michelle Grabner ; et l’exposition personnelle italienne Puddles at Peep-Hole à Milan (2014), sous le commissariat de Vincenzo De Bellis et Bruna Roccasalva. la 55e Exposition internationale d’art – La Biennale di Venezia (2013), organisée par Massimiliano Gioni ; et l’exposition personnelle Here, Here and Here à la Kunsthalle Zürich (2013), organisée par Beatrix Ruf. 

Le projet présenté par Aran à Madre, œuvre majeure en soi, s’inscrit dans un parcours artistique explorant depuis plus de vingt ans nos modes de communication, de comportement, de perception et de construction de relations avec le monde et autrui. Le langage est souvent au cœur de son travail – non seulement comme outil de communication, mais aussi comme espace où se manifestent les différences culturelles, les souvenirs personnels et les identités. Aran utilise mots, objets, images et gestes pour composer des œuvres qui semblent suspendues entre le familier et l’inattendu. À travers l’installation, la sculpture, la vidéo et la peinture, il donne forme à de riches scénarios visuels, où des éléments du quotidien sont déconstruits et réorganisés en compositions évoquant des récits fragmentaires et ouverts. Dans un discours sur la subjectivité qui embrasse la vulnérabilité et la complexité des relations, Aran travaille en marge du discours codifié. L’exposition à Madre retracera l’évolution de sa pratique du début des années 2000 à nos jours.

The Fondazione Donnaregina per le arti contemporanee – museo Madre, Naples presents the first institutional retrospective of work by the American artist Uri Aran (Jerusalem, 1977). Conceived especially for the spaces on the third floor of Palazzo Donnaregina, the exhibition is presented as a sort of mid-career retrospective: a path put together by the artist in direct dialogue with the architecture of the museum, bringing together many of his most important works alongside new pieces created especially for this occasion. This exhibition is very much part of the development of the artist, whose research has been featured in some of the most prestigious institutions on the international scene, including the Walker Art Center’s Platforms: Commissions and Collection program in Minneapolis (2019); the Whitney Biennial (2014), curated by Stuart Comer, Anthony Elms, and Michelle Grabner; the Italian solo exhibition Puddles at Peep-Hole in Milan (2014), curated by Vincenzo De Bellis and Bruna Roccasalva; the 55th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia (2013), curated by Massimiliano Gioni; and the solo exhibition Here, Here and Here at the Kunsthalle Zürich (2013), curated by Beatrix Ruf. 

The project presented by Aran at Madre, which constitutes a major work in its own right, sits within an artistic trajectory that has explored the ways in which we communicate, behave, perceive, and build relationships with the world and with others for over twenty years. At the center of his work is often language—not only as a tool of communication, but as a space where cultural differences, personal memories, and forms of identity are manifested. Aran uses words, objects, images, and gestures to compose works that seem suspended between the familiar and the unexpected. Through installation, sculpture, video, and painting, he gives shape to rich visual scenarios, where elements of everyday life are deconstructed and reorganized into compositions that evoke fragmentary and open narratives. In a discourse on subjectivity that embraces vulnerability and the complexity of relationships, Aran works at the margins of codified discourse. The exhibition at Madre will comprehensively recount the evolution of his practice from the early 2000s to the present day
