JAN FABRE, « ORO ROSSO » AND THREE EXHIBITIONS IN NAPLES
JAN FABRE ‘’ORO ROSSO” – Exhibitions in Naples: Museum and Real Bosco di Capodimonte, Church of Pio Monte della Misericordia, Studio Trisorio gallery, Museo Madre. From 29 march to 30 september 2019
At the Museum and Real Bosco di Capodimonte, the artist will exhibit a group of works in dialogue with a special selection of works of art from the museum’s permanent collection and other Neapolitan museum institutions. The exhibition, entitled Oro Rosso. Gold and coral sculptures, blood drawings, curated by Stefano Causa together with Blandine Gwizdala, will exhibit sculptures in gold and blood drawings created by the artist from the seventies to today, as well as an original and surprising series of red coral sculptures, made especially for Capodimonte by the artist. Fabre’s works will be held in dialogue with some pictorial masterpieces and splendid decorative objects of the Mannerist, Renaissance and Baroque style.
With the curatorship of Melania Rossi, the sculpture of Jan Fabre The man who bears the cross (2015), will be visible in the church of Pio Monte della Misericordia, in direct dialogue with the masterpiece of Caravaggio Seven works of Mercy (1606-1607). The sculpture, made entirely of wax, is a self-portrait of the artist holding a four-meter cross on the palm of the hand.
At Studio Trisorio gallery, a selection of works by Jan Fabre, made entirely of iridescent beetle wing cases, will be exhibited. The exhibition, titled Tribute to Hieronymus Bosch in Congo, curated by Melania Rossi, will open on March 29 and will feature large panels and mosaic sculptures of beetle wing cases inspired by the sad and violent history of the colonization of the Belgian Congo. The hell of Bosch, admired for its strong inventiveness, in many ways became a gruesome reality in the Belgian Congo. Jan Fabre combines the cruelty of the motif and the beauty of his presentation in these works.
As a special event connected to the three Jan Fabre’s exhibitions in Naples, from 30 March the Museo Madre, with the curatorship of Andrea Viliani, Melania Rossi and Laura Trisorio, will host the world premiere of the iconic sculpture The man who measures the clouds, in an unprecedented Carrara marble version.
