L’Américaine Kiki Smith (née en 1954) est l’une des artistes féministes les plus influentes de sa génération.

Si ses premiers travaux se caractérisent par les débats sociaux des années 1980, comme ceux sur le sida, elle s’intéresse ensuite intensément au corps féminin. Au début des années 1990, elle a commencé à se concentrer de plus en plus sur l’environnement et la nature en tant qu’espace à protéger. L’harmonie entre les êtres humains et animaux, en tant que partie d’un tout cosmique, joue ici un rôle décisif. Développée en étroite collaboration avec l’artiste, l’exposition rassemble 54 œuvres. Au cœur de l’exposition se trouvent ses tapisseries jacquard au design impressionnant. Ces œuvres colorées de grand format, dont certaines sont entrelacées de fils d’argent, invitent le spectateur à un voyage visuel de découverte. Ils combinent l’intemporel avec notre présent immédiat dans une clarté poétique et féerique. L’exposition est complétée par des sculptures, des dessins, des gravures en taille-douce sur cuivre, des photographies et des collages qui révèlent le processus de création complexe de l’œuvre aux multiples facettes de Kiki Smith.

US-American Kiki Smith (b. 1954) is one of the most influential feminist artists of her generation.

While her early work is characterised by the social debates of the 1980s, such as those about AIDS, she later focused intensively on the female body. In the early 1990s, she began to focus increasingly on the environment and nature as a space worth of protection. The harmony between humans and animals beings as part of a cosmic whole plays a decisive role here. Developed in close collaboration with the artist, the show brings together 54 works. At the heart of the exhibition are her impressively designed jacquard tapestries. These colourful large-format works, some of them are interwoven with silver threads, invite the viewer on a visual journey of discovery. They combine the timeless with our immediate present in a poetic, fairytale-like clarity. The exhibition is complemented by sculptures, drawings, copper intaglio prints, photographs and collages that reveal the complex creation process of Kiki Smith’s multifaceted work.
