« touché! » (gesture, movement, action) – Beirut Art Center, Beyrouth (LB) – 17.04.2019 – 22.06.2019 

touché! (gestes, mouvement, action) est une exposition collective qui privilégie la vitalité des pratiques expérimentales et la fertilité du dialogue entre les arts. touché! (gestes, mouvement, action) réunit les œuvres d’artistes du Liban et de la scène internationale, dans le prolongement de « scènes du geste », programme d’exposition et de performances organisé par christophe wavelet à l’invitation du centre national de la danse et du Festival d’automne à Paris en 2015 et « the weight of vision », un séminaire présenté par Marie Muracciole au Beirut art center la même année. Le but de l’exposition est de montrer ce dont le corps et l’esprit sont capables, une fois qu’ils sont motivés par une pratique artistique.

les gestes sont des éléments constitutifs de la vie et de l’histoire des sociétés humaines et jouent un rôle aussi décisif que les mots ou la parole. Sans eux, il n’y aurait ni imagination partagée ni histoire collective. Ainsi, normatifs ou discursifs, normatifs ou émancipateurs, les gestes produisent l’implication des deux sens et du sens. D’une manière similaire à la langue, ils sont inhérents à tout contrat social et à la possibilité de se comporter socialement. Dans le domaine de l’art en particulier, chaque geste met en jeu le sensible et l’intelligible: le corps et la pensée coopèrent de manière solidaire. touché ! (gestes, mouvement, action) met ainsi l’accent sur le geste, même s’il est abordé comme une manœuvre artistique.

Si le corps intervient, il le fait indépendamment de toute image et conformément à un effort qui vise le spécifique et le singulier plutôt que le générique. Car c’est à ce prix qu’un geste artistique est capable d’invention: dédié, destiné, il invite ses destinataires à participer au jeu gratuit de la réciprocité. En même temps, il aborde la question de son pouvoir de transformation engageant autant les artistes que les visiteurs. Ouvrrant la voie à d’autres gestes futurs.

Une constellation de gestes artistiques, performatifs, cinématographiques et musicaux, touché ! (gestes, mouvement, action) invite les visiteurs et les spectateurs à s’immerger dans l’élaboration de pratiques artistiques, dans les conditions d’expériences qu’ils se sont attribuées et dans la manière dont ils sont créés. Afin de devenir concevables, et finalement partagés.

« touché! » (gestures, movement, action) is a collective exhibition that privileges the vitality of experimental practices and the fertility of the dialogue between the arts. touché (gestures, movement, action) brings together the works of artists from lebanon and the international scene, as an extension of scènes du geste, an exhibition and performance program curated by christophe wavelet at the invitation of centre national de la danse and the festival d’automne in paris in 2015, and the weight of vision, a seminar presented by marie muracciole at beirut art center the same year. the aim of the exhibition is to showcase what body and mind are capable of, once they are motivated by an artistic practice.

gestures are constituents of the life and history of human societies, and play a role as decisive as words or speech. without them, there would be neither shared imagination nor collective history. thus, whether prescriptive or discursive, normative or emancipatory, gestures seek the involvement of both senses and sense. in a manner similar to language, they are inherent to any social contract, and to the possibility of behaving socially. in the realm of art in particular, each gesture brings into play the sensible and the intelligible: body and thought cooperate in solidarity. touché (gestures, movement, action) thus puts the accent on the gesture, albeit approached as an artistic maneuver.

should the body intervene, it does so apart from any image, and in accordance with an effort that targets the specific and the singular, rather than the generic. for it is at this price that an artistic gesture is capable of invention: dedicated, intended, it invites its recipients to participate in the free interplay of reciprocity. at the same time, it proffers the matter of its reciprocity: its power of transformation engages artists and visitors alike. opening the way for other, future gestures.

a constellation of artistic, performative, filmic and musical gestures, touché (gestures, movement, action) invites visitors and spectators to be immersed in the makings of artistic practices, in the conditions of experiences they allocate for themselves, and the way they are created in order to become conceivable, and ultimately shared.
