Ana Mendieta | films – Galleria Raffaella Cortese, Milan – December 3, 2019 – February 8, 2020 – Opening December 3rd 5-8 pm.

Raffaella Cortese announces an exhibition of films by Latin American artist: Ana Mendieta. As an exile of her home country of Cuba, Mendieta studied at Iowa State University, where she developed her artistic practice and came in contact with feminist movements, embracing the ideals of feminism. Originally trained as a painter, the artist turned to photography and filmmaking also to document performative actions where she carried out a dialogue between the landscape and the female body. Creating more than 100 films in her short lifetime, this aspect of her practice is tightly entangled in all her wider practice and remains as a fundamental testimony of her work. The exhibition will include a selection of films shown in Italy for the first time.
