Ana Mendieta (1948-1985) était une artiste multidisciplinaire pionnière dont l’œuvre a transformé les conceptions de la sculpture, de la photographie et du cinéma. L’exposition de la Tate Modern présente plus de 120 œuvres, explorant son lien profond et constant avec la nature, l’identité et l’exil.

Cette grande exposition consacrée à Ana Mendieta présente nombre de ses œuvres emblématiques ainsi que des films récemment remasterisés, des peintures de ses débuts et des sculptures de sa dernière période, dont beaucoup sont exposées pour la première fois au Royaume-Uni. L’exposition se prolonge hors des murs de la galerie, explorant la relation profonde qu’Ana Mendieta entretenait avec le monde naturel.

Mendieta est surtout connue pour sa  série Silueta  , qui explore la présence et l’absence du corps humain à travers l’utilisation de matériaux naturels tels que le feu, l’eau et les fleurs. Ces œuvres éphémères ont été documentées par la photographie et le cinéma.

Active dans les années 1970 et au début des années 1980, cette artiste américaine d’origine cubaine a posé, tout au long de son œuvre, des questions profondes sur le déracinement et l’identité, qui restent d’une grande actualité aujourd’hui.

Cette exposition, la première rétrospective de son œuvre au Royaume-Uni depuis plus de dix ans, met en lumière la pratique novatrice de Mendieta et confirme son statut d’artiste parmi les plus importantes du XXe siècle.

Avec le soutien du Cercle des mécènes de l’exposition Ana Mendieta, du Conseil international de la Tate, des mécènes de la Tate, des membres de la Tate et de la Fondation Tate Americas. Recherche menée avec le soutien du Centre de recherche Hyundai Tate : Transnational, en partenariat avec Hyundai Motor. Experience the powerful work of Ana Mendieta, whose legacy changed the course of contemporary art

Ana Mendieta (1948–1985) was a pioneering multidisciplinary artist whose work transformed ideas about sculpture, photography, and film. Tate Modern’s exhibition features more than 120 works, exploring her lifelong connection to nature, identity, and exile.

This major exhibition dedicated to Ana Mendieta presents many of her iconic works alongside newly remastered films, early paintings, and late sculptural pieces, many of which have never been seen in the UK before. The show will continue outside the gallery walls, embracing Mendieta’s deep relationship with the natural world.

Mendieta is best known for her Silueta Series, exploring the presence and absence of the human body, using a number of natural materials including fire, water and flowers. These ephemeral works were recorded as photographs and films.

Active in the 1970s and early 80s, the Cuban-born American artist posed profound questions throughout her work around displacement and identity, which remain highly relevant today.

This exhibition, which is the first in-depth UK show of her work in over ten years, shines a light on Mendieta’s trailblazing practice, reinforcing her standing as one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
