PIPILOTTI RIST – « Ever is over all » – Guggenheim Bilbao – 01.10.2026 – 17.01.2027.

Pipilotti Rist (Grabs, Suisse, 1962), est l’une des artistes vidéo les plus reconnues des trois dernières décennies, qui s’est fait remarquer dans les années 1980 en intégrant l’esthétique du clip vidéo à l’art audiovisuel, en s’inspirant d’autres influences, notamment la culture populaire, la technologie et l’art vidéo-féministe historique. Très tôt, elle développe un style personnel, intense sur le plan sensoriel et émotionnel.

L’exposition présente l’installation vidéo Ever is Over All (1997), une double projection montrant une femme souriante, vêtue d’une robe bleu clair, qui brise les vitres des voitures en stationnement alors qu’elle se promène sur le trottoir. Cette séquence se superpose, jusqu’à se fondre, avec d’autres images oniriques où apparaissent différentes fleurs tropicales. La vidéo, accompagnée d’une bande sonore envoûtante composée par l’artiste Anders Guggisberg au ralenti,  crée une atmosphère poétique qui plonge le spectateur dans une sorte de réalisme magique, où une fleur se transforme en arme destructrice, dans un geste à la fois cathartique et porteur d’espoir.

Pipilotti Rist (b. 1962, Grabs, Switzerland), one of the most renowned video artists in the past three decades, began to earn fame in the 1980s when she brought the aesthetic of the videoclip to media art, along with other influences like popular culture, technology, and historical feminist videoart. She developed her own heavily sensorial and emotional style very early on.

This exhibition presents the two channel video installation ‘Ever is Over All’ (1997), which shows a smiling woman wearing a light blue dress who breaks car windows as she walks along the sidewalk. This sequence is superimposed and even merged with other dreamlike images featuring different tropical flowers. Accompanied by a compelling, slowed-down soundtrack composed by Anders Guggisberg, the video offers a poetic atmosphere that immerses the viewer in a kind of magical realism where a flower becomes a destructive weapon, giving rise to a cathartic, hopeful gesture.
